US 98 Community Outreach Group (COG) Meeting
May 15, 2008
• Alabama Department of Transportation representatives presented the Department of Transportation process for planning, designing and building a road. Federal and State requirements for selecting a location, preparing the environmental document, evaluating alternatives, and steps for preliminary and final design, contractor selection and construction were included in the presentation.
• The COG was given an update on the current US 98 project.
Following the presentation, the COG discussed:
• Access
• Controlling illegal access
• Schedule for completion
• MAWSS concern over sediment
o COG members noted that Long Branch was silted in long before US98 construction began
• 9th Division Involvement
• Project affect on private well
The COG set the following Rules for meetings:
• Members want COG meetings to be for COG members only
• Public meetings to be held for larger audiences
