Escatawpa to Jones Road (8,650’) –
• Grade and drain project work complete in this section.
• Stabilized with vegetation reinforced with rolled erosion control product.
• An aggregate covered access road remains.
• Base and pave project through this section set to begin in early September.
Jones Road to Walter Tanner (10,650’) –
• Area east Jones Road is completed and protected with temporary best management practices (BMPs).
• 1500 - 2000 feet of grading work remains in this section as well as stabilization work on some of the large fills.
• Base and pave project through this section set to begin in early September.
Walter Tanner to Wilmer-Georgetown (4,186’) –
• Slope problems have been repaired with chimney drains near station 255 and 265.
• Temporary BMPs controlling erosion and sediment include -aggregate surfacing and stabilization with vegetation reinforced with rolled erosion control product.
• Active construction of roadways and ditches from Station 270 to 280. Temporary BMPs installed to help control erosion and runoff.
Wilmer-Georgetown to Glenwood (13,617’) –
• Slope problems to be repaired with chimney drains near station 360 once the Corp of Engineer permit modification is approved
Glenwood to east end (4,964’) –
- No work this month.
- Area stabilized with temporary BMPs.
- BMPs damaged due to Tropical Storm Fay have been repaired.
Environmental Issues:
- Rain Days: Aug. 1 (1.30), Aug. 7 (0.27), Aug. 11 (0.60), Aug. 12 (1.03), Aug. 16 (1.90), Aug. 18 (1.10), Aug. 19 (1.06), Aug. 20 (0.12), Aug. 23 (0.38), Aug. 25 (4.05). Total rainfall in August was 11.82 inches over 10 days noted above.
- Abundant rains this month contributed to slope washes with sediment loss into Scarbo Creek. In active construction area upset conditions from heavy rains of Tropical Storm Fay on 8/25/08 caused water quality violations in Long Branch Creek. Total of 5 dates this month with water quality violations. All violations were addressed and are back in compliance.
