Monthly Construction and Environmental Update January 2009

Escatawpa to Jones Road (8,650’) –
• Base and pave project through this section underway. Lower asphalt layer complete.
• Shoulder soil work in progress with high performance mulch being applied for soil stabilization. This work should be complete by mid February.
• Perimeter silt fences, wattles, and inlet protection devices in place for sediment control.

Jones Road to Walter Tanner (10,650’) –
• Base and pave project through this section underway. Lower asphalt layer complete.
• Shoulder work should begin mid February.
• Perimeter silt fences, wattles, and inlet protection devices in place for sediment control.
• Two fill slopes are completed with anchoring system and have been stabilized with hydro mulch. One fill slope with anchoring system remains to be completed by mid February.
• All other areas stabilized with BMPs.

Walter Tanner to Wilmer-Georgetown (4,186’) –
• Temporary BMPs controlling erosion and sediment include -aggregate surfacing, wattles, inlet protection, slope stabilization with grassing, and rolled erosion control products.
• Construction of roadways, drain pipes, and ditches from Station 250 to 281 complete.

Wilmer-Georgetown to Glenwood (13,617’) –
• Active roadway and ditch line construction in progress in the vicinity west of Big Creek from Station 385 to 398. Construction of hazardous material spill containment pond west of Big Creek bridges..
• Minimal but necessary clearing of trees required for upcoming bridge extension project east of existing bridges completed. Area stabilized with erosion control products.
• Automatic water samplers installed to monitor water quality from project into Long Branch and Big Creek.
• Temporary BMPs controlling erosion and sediment include -aggregate surfacing, wattles, inlet protection, slope stabilization with grassing, and rolled erosion control products.

Glenwood to east end (4,964’) –
• No work this month.
• Area stabilized with temporary vegetation and BMPs.
• Automatic water samplers installed to monitor water quality from project into Collins Creek.
• Construction should resume in this area in late February 2009.

Environmental Issues:
- Rain Days: Jan 4 (1.61”avg.), Jan 6 (0.51”avg.), Jan 10 (0.55” avg), Jan 18 (0.11” avg). Jan 28 (0.14” avg). Total of 2.92 inches of rain this month. No water quality violations this month.
