Escatawpa to Jones Road (8,650’) –
• Base and pave project complete through this section.
• A high performance mulch applied to exposed soil shoulders for stabilization.
• BMPs such as wattles and inlet protection devices in place for sediment control.
Jones Road to Walter Tanner (10,650’) –
• Base and pave project through this section complete from Jones Road to Scarbo Creek bridges.
• A high performance mulch applied to exposed soil shoulders for stabilization from Jones Road to Scarbo Creek bridges.
• Crushed aggregate base layer placed from Scarbo Creek bridges to Station 238. Asphalt binder layer should be applied in April. Shoulder work will begin once paving completed in this section.
• Silt fencing, wattles, and inlet protection devices in place for sediment control.
• All fill slopes with anchoring system completed and stabilized with high performance mulch for soil stabilization.
• All other areas stabilized with BMPs.
Walter Tanner to Wilmer-Georgetown (4,186’) –
• Construction of roadways, drain pipes, and ditches from Station 250 to 281 complete.
• Temporary BMPs controlling erosion and sediment include -aggregate surfacing, wattles, inlet protection, slope stabilization with grassing, and rolled erosion control products.
Wilmer-Georgetown to Glenwood (13,617’) –
• Roadways, ditch lines, and pipe construction completed in the vicinity west of Big Creek from Station 385 to 398. Hazardous material containment pond west of bridges completed.
• Area east of Big Creek bridges stabilized with erosion control products and grassing. West bound access road has been covered with aggregate surfacing.
• Excess muck pile removal complete from Station 340 to 350 and east roadway completed and stabilized in this area.
• Excess soil removed from west bound roadway from Station 305 to 310. Area stabilized with top soil, seed, mulch and rolled erosion control products.
• Automatic water samplers installed to monitor water quality from project into Long Branch and Big Creek.
• All completed areas have temporary BMPs controlling erosion and sediment that include aggregate surfacing, wattles, inlet protection, slope stabilization with grassing, and rolled erosion control products.
Glenwood to east end (4,964’) –
• Construction in progress on the western ½ of this section this month. Soil exposure work limited by ALDOT to the required maximum of 17.5 acres.
• Construction of ditch lines and sediment ponds stabilized with rip rap from Station 430 to Station 455. Roadbed activities complete from Station 430 to 435. Cut and fill operations in progress from Station 435 to 455.
• Completed sections of roadbed were capped with small aggregate for access travel or sealed with top soil, seeded, mulched, and netted with rolled erosion control product.
• Automatic water samplers installed to monitor water quality from project into Collins Creek.
• Remaining areas are vegetated and temporary BMPs are in place.
Environmental Issues:
- Rain Days: March 15 (1.81” ave.), March 16 (0.55” ave.), March 26 (1.63” ave.), March 27 (3.20” ave.), March 28 (4.48” ave.), March 31 (3.60” ave.). Total of 15.27 inches of rain this month. Because of turbidity issues at outfall locations (OF 13, 17, 30, 31, and 32) causing Non-Compliant conditions (defined as greater than 50 ntu above background), a Notice of Upset Condition was filed with ADEM for the heavy rain events that occurred from March 26-29 (9.31”ave.) and the event on March 31 (3.60”ave.) which caused several water quality violations for this month.
